A performer over Group level events during the 2013 spring, trainer Darren Weir has confirmed Lord Of Brazil will step out for Race 6 at Flemington Racecourse this weekend, figuring as the next stop on the way to notable sprint events including the Group 2 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley on October 26th.
Nominated for an event on last Saturday’s racing program, Weir was forced to remove Lord Of Brazil from the final field after the rising eight-year-old sustained a nasty cut on his leg a few days prior.
Running on from the rear of the field to finish a competitive eighth amongst classy company in the VRC-CRV Winter Championship Open (1410m) last time out on June 28th, Weir has been pleased with the building form over Lord Of Brazil but conceded his disappointment at being unable to continue his recent ideal run of events.
“He must have got stuck in his box or something and cut his leg, but it’s fine now – not an issue,” Weir told TVN
“It was a much better run from him last time.
“It’s a shame he had to come out last week as it looked a suitable race for him, but he’s fine to go tomorrow.”
Securing an impressive record of 10 race wins and a further eleven minor places from just 33 competitive starts so far, Lord Of Brazil ran on to finish fifth in the Listed Drummond Golf Stakes (1200m) first-up in the 2013 spring and continued to build in form on his way to a fighting seventh in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) most notably.
Yet to hit peak condition this time in, Weir is confident the Lord Of Warriors gelding will iron out all the creases over his next few starts before entering major events through the thick of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
