12 talented milers have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2015 Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Lucky Hussler ($2.20) posted a second win at the highest level of racing a fortnight ago and remains clear favourite in 2015 Crystal Mile betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Turn Me Loose ($4.80) and Bow Creek ($6).
Will Lucky Hussler justify favouritism and win the 2015 Crystal Mile or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Lucky Hussler ($2.20)
Arguably one of the best bets of the day at Moonee Valley on Saturday, Lucky Hussler delivered a talented field defeat in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) a fortnight ago and will be very hard to beat from the ideal barrier 3 in the Crystal Mile. Capping an impressive 2014 campaign second in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), the Husson gelding returned this year for success in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) before credible performances in two resulting starts. Having placed fourth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and sixth in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) leading into his Toorak Handicap triumph, Glen Boss retains the ride on the six-year-old on Saturday.
Sons Of John ($15)
Undoubtedly offering punters the best value for money at Crystal Mile odds of $15 for success or $3.90 to finish in the first three, Sons Of John has found scintillating form this time and is a leading chance for a place finish, if not success on Saturday. Ending a standout autumn preparation with success in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup (1600m), Sons Of John returned this time for an agonizingly-close second to Winx in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) before running on for third in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) three weeks ago. Jeff Penza retains the ride on Jason Attard’s stable star, who could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 2.
Strawberry Boy ($19)
Strawberry Boy will relish the mile on Saturday, a step back in class and should receive a gun ride from veteran Jim Cassidy from barrier 6. A standout for Chris Waller through the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival in taking out each of the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m) and Listed Wayne Wilson (1600m), the Redoute’s Choice gelding placed fourth in each of the Theo Marks Stakes and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes upon resuming this time, but faded late for eighth in the Epsom Handicap last time out.
