Eight runners remain in contention for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m) following the scratching of Observational; offering punters increased value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
The United States remains a clear $3.30 in favourite in 2016 Crystal Mile betting markets despite yet heralding much interest from punters at Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of He Or She ($4.50) and Federal ($5.50).
Will The United States justify favouritism and win the 2016 Crystal Mile, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?
The United States ($3.30)
The United States is arguably the class runner of the 2016 Crystal Mile field and could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 2, with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle. Resuming this year for fifth in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m), the Galileo entire ran a close second in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on March 19th. Having returned to the paddock after placing second in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), The United States is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for sixth in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and is the horse to beat in the Crystal Mile.
He Or She ($4.50)
A former Perth galloper, He Or She carries great form into the Crystal Mile and should relish the conditions of the race. Winner of the Blamey Stakes most notably in autumn, He Or She resumed this time for seventh in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1300m) and responded well to the run when third in the talent-rich Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) a fortnight later. Running second in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), the Kendal Star gelding was last seen finishing third behind Winx and Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m). He Or She will be partnered by Dwayne Dunn and will leave from the outside gate on Saturday.
Ulmann has returned to racing in slick form this time, but the talent confirmed in the Crystal Mile could be a bridge too far for the five-year-old this time in. winning a pair of Victorian minors over 1400m through July and August, the Sebring gelding placed fifth in the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) on August 20th. Running a close second behind Bon Aurum in the Listed The Sofitel (1400m) on September 10th, Ulmann broke through for a maiden black type win in he Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) last time out on October 20th.
